I notice that in one of those articles it discusses American efforts to persuade the Arab world that America is not bad and says "Many of the region's leaders believe America is at war with the Arab world, or with Islam itself, according to a March report by the Center for Strategic and International Studies." If the article is correct America (the CIA) is waging a strong propaganda campaign. Of course, there ias also a strong Jihadi propaganda campaign, but that has less to do with Islam and howit is understood in the US.

Here is a link which may interest you. It is a search for "islam" on the PBS broadcasting system, "public" television in the US sponsored largely by citizen contributions and appealing to intellectuals and educated people.

http://www.pbs.org/search/search_results.html?q=islam&btnG.x=0&btnG.y=0&neighborhood=none

Similar searches on other American TV networks are less productive:

http://search.cnn.com/pages/search.jsp?query=islam

There has been a lot of coverage of Islam on TV in America, much more than before the attack of 9/11/2001. Most of it has been what I consider neutral or positive. I am pretty sure most informed Americans believe Islam as practiced by most Muslims is a peaceful religion. They also understand, unfortunately, that some very dangerous jihadis claim to be good Muslims.

Anyway, the links above may provide some perspective on how Islam has been portrayed on American TV.

I have a question for you. I am not a very religious person. As an engineer, I find it easier to believe in mathematics and science than to believe in god. My own religion, if I have one, is nobody's business and I do not choose to reveal it. That understood, would you think differently of me if you believed I was a Bahai?

Yes she and her mother and sister(HNK), went to Baghdad on Wednesday.
They arrived Baghdad safely (thanks God). The journey takes about 6 hours.
The distance between Mosul and Baghdad is 400 km(250 mile), there is no speed limit on the high way, the road is bad, full of holes, many check points, and millitary conovoys are always there, they travel in low speed and shoot any one who try to pass them.
One should be very careful in order to reach there safe.

"would you think differently of me if you believed I was a Bahai?"
Definitly I will not think differently of you what ever religion, thought, or political ideas you have.
I beleive that every person has the right to be as he want, as far as he is not putting other in troubles.
Our religion teached us that. The Quraan said:
"There is no compulsion in religion. The right direction is henceforth distinct from error. And he who rejecteth false deities and believeth in allah hath grasped a firm handhold which will never break. allah is Hearer, Knower."
I admired you not because you are Moslim or Arabic or Iraqi, or because you and i are sharing the same ideas. No i admired you, just because I liked the way you approached different subject without hurt the feeling of others, even if they don't agree with you.
My respect and greeting to you.

Truth Teller -

I admire and respect you also, and I am grateful for your blogging! What your family has written gives me some information about how intelligent, good people trying to live a sensible life are being affected by the chaos in Iraq. Thank you for your efforts.

THE "FIVE PILLARS" OF ISLAM area:
1. THE DECLARATION OF FAITH.
2. PRAYER.
3. ZAKAT.
4. FASTING.
5. PILGRIMAGE.
Those are the pillars of Islam, any one who perform these pillar, is regarded as Muslim. But does any body who say I am a Muslim based on these pillars, is really a Muslim?

Yes he is a Muslim by name, but not a Muslim as he supposed to be !!
Every single one of these pillars have conditions to fulfilled in order to be done perfectly.
For example; the declaration of faith, mean that you believe that AllAh is the God and the only God, and all the human are servants to the God. In believing so you must follow all the orders of the God to the letter. The orders of the God are written in Quraan. Most of them areb very clear and simple. As what to do in your life time, what to eat, what to drink, how to worship God, how to do your prayer. And the rules of war. It is clear to every body that defending one country and religion is a MUST for every Muslim capable of fighting, unless there is a composition represented by the authorities, who take this act for the general Muslims. Those fighters are called Jihadis (those who fought to defend their religion and their land). In a case like what is going on in Iraq. Our country has been occupied by a foreigners, who declared from the begining that they are against Islam (As your government counted every Muslim as terrorist). We assumed that this war was not for MDW (as it becom clear lately, not for Saddam supporting al Qaeda, and you said not for oil. We believed it is not for installing democracy in the Middle east, otherwise you could install democracy in Kuwait when there were no government whatsoever at 1991, or in Qatar where all the American force are their without fight.

Bout Imams. You know there are Sunni and Shiet, each have their own Imams, who responsible to explain the rules of Islam when there is no claer cut script in Quraan about it, this is called Fatwa. For Sunni there are two main sources for Fatwa, The Sheikh of Al-Azhar (in Egypt), and In Saudia Arabia.

If there is a clear script in the Quraan, as in case of Jihaad, no body can criticize it, it is the God order.
But in case of suicide, it is against the rule of Islam, unless it was for a very noble goal, as defending one's religion.

In my opinion, it is better to convince Muslim, That you are not against their religion, than to trying to use force to let them put down their weapons, because always there are a new ones who prefer to die than to let you kill more Muslims

Which government counted every Muslim as a terrorist? That certainly would have made the news!
Especially here in the U.S. where we have millions of Muslims.
